On 14 August 2019, the Department of Science and Technology hosted a forum on "Irradiation of Food Products" at Annabel's Restaurant in Tomas Morato, QC. Headed by DOST’s PCAARRD (Phil. Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Dev’t.) Research Specialist Abigail f. Gueco, MPAf of the Technology Transfer and Promotion Div. DOST’s Phil. Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) Head of Irradiation Services Section, Luvimina G. Lanuza, MNSA, PAGASA was briefed together with other Stakeholders regarding the benefits of irradiation on food products. Present at this forum was Paul B. Juat, Asst. to the Chairman Emeritus of A. Brown Co., Inc. which is interested In putting up an irradiation facility and is the company behind

PAGASA is a regular attendee of the General Membership Meetings of the Phil. Retailers Assn. as PAGASA is an Associate Member of the PRA. At this 2/Q GMM on 25 July 2019, Kantar World Panel presented at EDSA Shang's Garden Ballroom brand equity of the most popular supermarket products. Also, where consumers went to buy their favorite brands.  STC was honored to introduce the guest speaker for the day.

 

The PAGASA office welcomed on 17 July 2019 spice suppliers from India who exhibited at the the Indus Food Show where a PAGASA delegation attended earlier this January.  They were following up the business matching that took place at that trade show by visiting the country to find out for themselves the opportunities of bringing in their products.

On 7 July 2019, PAGASA held its 3/Q General Meeting at the Opening Day of the World Food Expo (WOFEX) in one of the Function Rooms at the SMX by the bay.  WOFEX holds this trade show yearly in dual venues: the World Trade Center and the SMX. Kantar World Panel’s Des Deocareza- Lozano, New Business Development Head presented about Phil. Brand Equity for FMCG.  Kantar World Panel is an international market research & insighting consultancy firm. The Meeting culminated with a visit to the Mall of Asia as it is vigorously being renovated and expanded.

 

 

On July 2, 2019, STC was interviewed by GMA-7's Reporter Bernadette Reyes regarding the supply and prices of basic necessities and prime commodities during mid-year.

PAGASA’s Pres. Steven T. Cua was invited to the Pre-State of the Nation Address Economic and Infrastructure Form held by Malacañang on 1 July 2019 at the Philippine International Conference and Convention (PICC) Center.

On 28 June 2019 at the Garden Ballroom of EDSA Shangri-La in Mandaluyong City, the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) held its 2Q Meeting- cum-Annual Elections of its Board. Keynote speaker was DTI Sec. Ramon Lopez who spoke on the latest DTI laws and policies that affect the retail industry. The elections resulted in Wilcon Builder’s Rose Bosch Ong becoming PRA’s president-elect and as its Chairman, Atty. Paul Santos.

 

 

In the morning of June 21, 2019, upon the request of the Bureau of Investments under the DTI, PAGASA welcomed Mr. Robin Yao, Head of Overseas Investment and Development of New Hope Liuhe Co., Ltd. (established in 1998) to their office.  The Company offers meat products such as smoked duck breast and roasted duck legs, ham sausages under the Meihao brand, livestock feeds under the Liuhe brand and chilled fresh pork under the Qianxihe brand.  In the Philippines, they have existing products facilities for animal and aqua feeds in Tarlac, Bulacan and Isabela.  For this reason, STC invited to the Meeting Jesse Cham, President of the Meat Importers and Traders Association (MITA). Also present were Liuhe’s interpreter and Ms. Marie Joy I. Lucas, BOI’s international Investments Promotions Service staff.

PAGASA’s STC was invited to grace the annual Retailer & Shopping Center of the Year Awards on 20 June 2019 at Solaire Casino and Resort.  As usual, STC was a presenter for one of the Awards. This year’s Supermarket of the Year Award went to Robinsons Supermarket. The President’s Award for Retailer of the Year went to Mr. Tony Tan Caktiong of the Jollibee Group of Fastfood Restaurants. Host for the evening was crowd favorite RJ Ledesma.
