  PAGASA’s 1st Q GenMeet for 2011 was held at Jade Palace along Shaw Blvd. and was hosted by Golden Donuts. Puregold Price Club, Inc. was invited as guest in the event as was a few other major supermarkets who are still non-members of retail organizations. A lot of pending bills in the Senate and Congress connected to retailing were included in discussions on 3/24/11.

  PAGASA Pres. STC was guest at early morning show “Unang Hirit” eleven days after the 3/11/11 earthquake/tsunami that hit Fukushima, Japan. He clarified that minimal, if any, products which may be tainted with radioactivity from leaks at the concerned nuclear plant may actually reach the country. He asked the public to practice caution but not to be unnecessarily alarmed.

 On 7 March 2011, Senate Committees on Trade & Industry and Economic Affairs held a consultation meeting with the concerned government agencies/industry associations to assess the price spikes as a consequence of increase in world fuel/wheat/corn prices and the possible ill effects of a pro-longed strife in Libya and the Middle Eastern countries. Attended by Senators Francis Pangilinan, Sergio Osmeña III and Teofisto Guingona III, they tried to get a good picture of the situation from DTI Sec. Gregory L. Domingo, DA Sec. Proceso J. Alcala, BSP Dep. Gov. Diwa Guinigundo, experts of the FAO (3 gentlemen beside the lady) and associations like PAGASA.

  After the live guesting at DZMM’s “Konsumer, atbp.” on 5 March 2011, a group picture was taken with (L-R) STC, Dept. of Energy (DOE)’s Melita V. Obillo, DTI Usec. Zenaida Maglaya, DOE Usec. Jose M. Layug, Jr., Ric Pinca of the Phil. Assn. of Flour Millers (PAFMIL) and Rudy Dalangin of the National Market Vendors Cooperative (NAMVESCO). The heated discussion centered on the supply and prices of fuel in the light of unrest in Libya and other OPEC nations; if rationing/couponing would be effective. |
