DA-DTI public hearingThe Department of Agriculture and the Department of Trade and Industry held a consultative hearing regarding a joint Senior Citizen booklet last June 7, 2007 at the Apacible Hall of the Department of Agriculture in Quezon City.

The meeting included representatives from the different Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) chapters, representatives from the Philippine Association of Supermarkets (PASI) led by Attorney Fred Plez, Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association (PAGASA) led by its president Steve Cua, and a representative from Mercury Drug. The government was represented by people from the Department of Social Welfare, Department of Agriculture and Director Dimagiba for the Department of Trade and Industry.

The DSWD provided a sample of the new senior citizens booklet for comment and suggestions by the group. However, the discussion revolved primarily around clarifications on the rules as well what items are or are not included in the list of allowed items.

As a guideline on the list of items, Directory Dimagiba clarified that the items included in the list are primarily those basic or essential as defined under Republic Act 8751 otherwise known as The Price Act of 1992.

An electronic copy of the Price Act may be downloaded from the DTI website using this link.
